ST GEORGE'S PLATEAU

Detail of mourners on cenotaph, designed by Lionel Budden, sculpted by Tyson Smith, unveiled 1930.
East and south facade of St George's Hall (Elmes, 1851).

Wherever we turn we see our city's Victorian grandeur, from St George's Hall to the Walker Art Gallery, County Sessions House, Empire Theatre, Alfred Waterhouse's North Western hotel (now Red Radisson) and Lime St Station.  There is also a Grade I listed war memorial, and two statues who became the best of friends.  The plateau itself is almost flat, and there is lift access to Lime St Station if required.  Total walking distance is less than 500 metres.

Tour lasts approx 1.25 hours
