ST JOHN'S GARDENS

Road Peace memorial to all victims of road traffic accidents, by Tom Murphy, 2005
Bas-relief symbolising speed, in Portland stone by Edmund Thompson and George Capstick, about 1934.

Here we are overlooked by the finest collection of Victorian Civic Buildings in the world, while we overlook the entrance to the Birkenhead Road Tunnel, a marvel of engineering from 1934.  And the statues and monuments of St John's Gardens tell many stories from our city's social history.  Our walk looks in detail at the history of all these buildings, statues and monuments.

This walk is about 500m long, on an incline.

Tour lasts approx 1.25 hours (75 minutes)

Meet at the entrance to the Gardens opposite the library.
