THE PIER HEAD - BUILDINGS AND SCULPTURES

30 James St, originally the White Star Building, 'home' of the Titanic
George's Dock Ventilation Tower (1934), with Betty Woodman's "Liverpool Fountain" in the foreground.

This tour focuses on Liverpool's world renowned Three Graces - the Liver Building, Cunard Building and Port of Liverpool Building.  We look at the Art Deco splendour of a ventilation tower, and see the building which was the HQ of the White Star Line and where the sinking of the Titanic was officially announced.  We also meet a remarkable young astronomer much admired by Isaac Newton. And much more...

There is very little walking and it is on level ground, but the Waterfront can be chilly even in the sun, so please wrap up well!

Tour lasts approx 1.25 hours (75 minutes)

Meet in front of the Liver Building, riverside entrance.
